LOFT has welcomed the renaming of the South Stand as the Tommy Johnston Stand, in memory of the club's all-time leading goalscorer who died recently.

LOFT approached the club in 2004 regarding naming a stand in his honour, either the then-unbuilt West Stand or the South Stand, but the club could not commit to this in case of any future 'commercial naming opportunity' for either stand.

Whilst it is regrettable that the club were unwilling to look beyond possible financial benefits during Tommy's lifetime, it reflects positively on the club and its chief executive Matt Porter that the decision to rename the South Stand was taken within hours of the news of Tommy's death, and that no further persuasion from LOFT or other supporters was required.
