Supporters’ trusts for fans of Birmingham City, Coventry City and Hereford United, alongside umbrella body Supporters Direct, have all called for the Government to back Damian Collins’ attempt to bring in new rules to protect clubs from bad owners.
All three supporters’ trusts are amongst a number who have been dealing with problems at their own clubs, and have come out in support of his private members bill, which has its second reading this Friday 7th November.upporters Direct welcomes the announcement of the Labour Party’s plans for a shake-up of football governance, centred on Supporters Direct’s objective of ensuring fans have a real role in the ownership and running of their clubs.
||Supporters Direct and Sandlanders launch report at Soccerex African Forum|
Earlier this week, on Tuesday and Wednesday, Moses Mabidha Stadium in Durban (South Africa) hosted the third Soccerex African Forum, atttended by delegates from football and beyond, who discussed issues such as club licensing, league development, and the governance of the game.
Among the speakers over the course of the two days were Supporters Direct and Sandlanders Football, who participated in the ‘Importance of Club Licensing’ session. Justin Mumba (President, Zesco United), Shehu Dikko (Chairman of the First Instance Appeals Body, Nigerian Football Federation), and moderator Thomas Kwenaite (SuperSport) also appeared. The session discussed the benefits and implementation of the Confederation of African Football’s licensing system across the continent.
