LOFT supports The Greater Game
LOFT is pleased to announce that it is supporting the forthcoming production of The Greater Game, the play based on the book 'They Took The Lead' about the story of Clapton Orient's players in the First World War.
First, we've made a direct financial donation to the production from our general funds, as part of our support to football community projects. The production has received support from across the football community, and we're happy to be able to add to this support.
We're also able to support the production further – and at the same time offer members a chance to win VIP tickets to the play!
We have purchased one 'Final Victory +1' package to offer as a prize draw to all members (either current or those who join/rejoin by the end of October) - the details of this £250 package are listed on their fundraising page on Indiegogo as follows:
- 2 VIP tickets to the final performance (Sunday 25 November at 4pm)
- Pre-show drink
- Exclusive access to the final night after-show party
To enter the competition, all you have to do is:
- if you're not already a member, join LOFT (or renew if your membership has lapsed)
- after you join/renew, email email@example.com by midnight on 31 October 2018 with the subject line 'Greater Game' and state your name
The winner will be drawn at random and informed as soon as possible after this date. By entering the competition, you give your consent for us to share your name and email address with the Greater Game production if you win, so that they can contact you to arrange your prize.
If you can’t make the final performance but still want to support The Greater Game, we'd encourage you to look at their fundraising page on Indiegogo for other ways to contribute.
Regeneration Fund update
Since our last update in April, we contacted everyone we had contact details for, for whom their donation was eligible for refund under the fund mandate. We have received instruction on most of those donations, and have carried out those instructions in full (either a refund, leave their donation in the fund, donate their donation to our general funds, or any combination of the above).
We would like to remind everyone that the refund period ends on 31 October, after which date any donations eligible for refund are locked in to the fund and no refunds can be made. Please contact our treasurer Peter Osborne at firstname.lastname@example.org if you made a donation which is eligible for refund (a direct donation of £100 or more, or £20+ per month by standing order) and haven't yet given us instruction.
Once the refund period ends, we'll know exactly how much in total has been given back to our general funds to spend on football community projects. We estimate we’ll have at least £10,000 available, so we’ll consider ideas and will report back at the AGM later this year before we commit to spending the bulk of this.
Whatever happens with the rest of the donations which are eligible for refund, there will be at least £100,000 which remains in the Regeneration Fund. Unless members vote to change the fund's purpose, it can legally only be spent on the purposes for which the fund was set up – i.e. to help resolve certain crisis situations at the club – and so will be kept safely until such time as it is ever needed.
Obviously, nobody wants Leyton Orient to face another crisis again, but if it ever did happen in the future then LOFT would be in the fairly unusual – possibly unique – position of having the insurance of a six-figure sum available as a 'fighting fund'.
