LOFT statement on ground sale notification
8/29/2016

LOFT was successful last year in having the Matchroom Stadium listed as an Asset of Community Value at Waltham Forest council, when the council determined in a Listing Review that our nomination should stand.

This means that no sale of the ground can take place without LOFT being notified and given an opportunity to bid to buy it.

Recently we were notified by the council that they have received a notice of Matchroom's intention to sell the ground. We had been in contact with Barry Hearn prior to the notice, so this was not a surprise to us, and we do not believe this is anything other than a transfer of ownership within the Matchroom companies. We do find it surprising though that Francesco Becchetti has apparently let his two-year option to buy the ground lapse.

Nonetheless, this presents LOFT with an opportunity to look into whether we can put together a bid to buy the ground and ensure its future is protected by supporters. We've therefore taken the decision to submit an 'intention to bid' to the council, which pauses the sale process and gives us until near the end of January to put together a bid.

We're looking into possible options and will call a general meeting to discuss this with members once we have had a chance to progress this further.
